The Rabbit
Symbols of good luck, fortune, and abundance – having a rabbit cross your path is a sign of positive changes waiting around the corner. Pliny the Elder and Aristotle both described the rabbit as one of the most fertile of animals making it a classic symbol of fertility and sexual desire. In Ancient Greece rabbits were given as tokens of love, in Rome the gift of a rabbit was to help a barren woman conceive. In many Asian cultures, folklore speaks of rabbits on the moon. In Aztec mythology, there are the 400 drunken rabbits – the children of Mayahuel, the goddess of the agave plant and fertility, and Patecatl, the god of healing and medicine. Drunk off the pulque flowing from Mayahuel’s bosom, they represent all the infinite ways in which we can intoxicate ourselves.
