A Caution
A summary of Rudyard Kipling's story of how the camel got his hump.
In the beginning of time, when animals first began to work for humans, the camel lived alone in the barren desert and refused to work. The dog, the horse, and the ox all implored the stubborn animal to help, but he would only reply “humph!”. The exasperated animals complained to their humans who said although they were sorry, there was nothing they could do, everyone else would have to pitch in more to compensate for the lazy camel.
The animals then complained to a Djinn, a spirit of Arabian folklore, who also asked the camel to work but only received a curt “humph!” in reply. Disgusted, the spirit performed magic that made the idle camel grow a hump on his back that could hold enough food and water to sustain the beast for three days of uninterrupted work, condemning him to toil at hard labor for the rest of his days.
