Slow Beauty FAQs

Our Slow Beauty is:

Plastic free, cruelty free, never tested on animals, sustainably sourced and foraged, and free of any synthetic preservatives or chemicals.

What is Slow Beauty?

Slow Beauty is a historically rooted collection of environmentally focused artisan skincare, cosmetics, and botanical perfumes. Read more about it here and shop the collection here.

What is the shelf life?

All of our products are formulated to have a shelf life of at least one year. While some are significantly longer, we recommend using everything within a year for maximum freshness.

How should I store my product?

Keep your Slow Beauty in a cool, dry place, out of any direct sunlight. The less light and heat that your products are exposed to, the fresher and more active they’ll stay.

How do I remove the wax seal?

Often the waxed cork can be gently jimmied out of the top of the bottle without ever breaking any wax. We include a fresh, unwaxed cork in each package should you decide that you want to use that. If the wax seal needs to be broken to open the bottle, simply use your finger to break the wax into small pieces, away from the sides of the bottle until the cork can easily be removed.

Is it vegan?

Most of our product line is vegan but there are a handful of lip and cheek colors, salves, and pommades that contain beeswax or carmine. Each product has a full ingredient list under the drop down tab called “Ingredients”.

What about spot testing?

Everyone is different and we always recommend that any new product that you’re trying on your skin be spot tested for irritation or adverse reactions. If any irritation does occur, please discontinue the use of the product immediately. If you’re looking for recommendations before you buy, feel free to reach out to us at info@kindredblack.com.

How do I travel with my Slow Beauty?

Most of our hand blown glass vanity bottles are not travel-friendly, however, our aluminum refill bottles are ready to go wherever you are

Why isn't my product refillable?

Unfortunately some of our intricate and very small bottles require special equipment to fill or are impractical to fill at home. We’re working on bottle alterations or solutions for the near future so that more of our Slow Beauty can be included in the refill program. To inquire about custom refills, please reach out to info@kindredblack.com and we’ll do our best to get you what you want.

What about testers and samples?

Unfortunately we don’t currently send testers and samples because they typically require plastic or excess waste, something we try to avoid at all costs!

Where can I try in person?

Right now, we’re online only and do not sell in any brick and mortar shops.

How does the brand ensure that its blown glass primary packaging is relatively uniform?

Our artisans are actually amazing at achieving a fairly uniform size and shape. Because each bottle is handmade though there can be small differences that are unavoidable – a person is sitting at a flame and blowing an orb of molten glass into shape. We think of these small differences as a strength and what makes our line so unlike anything else on the market.

I received my bottle and the paperwork / sticker has the size crossed out and a handwritten size that is smaller / larger has been added. Why is that??

Our bottles are fully handmade, by a glass artisan that individually crafts each piece using molten glass and a flame. There are cases where a run of bottles comes out larger or smaller than they were intended to be and instead of wasting packaging and reprinting, we cross the size out and hand write the new size in until that run of bottles is gone. The price that you paid has been adjusted to reflect the amount of product that you receive.

The seasonal product that you just released is already sold-out. Will you be getting a restock?

In many cases, our seasonal editions are very small-batch – when that particular flower or plant is in season, we sustainably farm or forage enough for one limited run and when that is sold out, we have to wait another year to make more. We don’t recommend waiting on these editions, as they do tend to sell out fast.

Do limited edition products ever get restocked?

There are special, rare, and unique offerings that we’ll only do once and when that edition is sold out, it’s gone for good. We do try to note it when an edition is one-and-done.

Why is there a longer lead time on shipping refills?

We pour our refills fresh, as they’re ordered. This can add a couple of days to our normal lead times and refills can take up to 3-5 days to ship.

Is it safe for pregnancy and breastfeeding?

Though many of our products are safe for parents and babies, we always ask that you please consult with your physician before using if pregnant or breastfeeding.
