The Bottle
The sculptural black glass bottle is hand blown in Illinois by a master glass artisan and each one is topped with a hand worked recycled sterling silver perfume dabber. The dabbers are a series of interrelated talismans from the natural world, based on relics from our own curio collection – the vulnerable lobster, a large sea fan coral, the transformative antler, and a graceful spiral shell.

A very special perfume bottle from our exclusive holiday collection, inspired by Pliny The Elder's astonishing and celebrated multi-volume opus, The Natural History, completed in 77 CE and known as the world’s very first encyclopedia.
The solid sterling silver bottle topper is molded and hand finished by our traditional bench jeweler, an artisan that has been working with fine metals for more than fifty years.
The Victorians believed coral to be protective and would often keep it in the rooms of their children to repel spirits that might turn the child into a changeling, a fairy child swapped and left in the place of a human child. Still thought of as an amulet of protection, it is believed that coral can help to guard against negative, wearying energy and other psychologically destructive forces.
