Gentleman's Jewelry
An english invention of the 1730's, bottle tickets were hung around the necks of clear glass wine and spirit decanters, newly fashionable among the English aristocracy. Dubbed "gentleman's jewelry", the silver labels began to be manufactured on a larger scale, with details distinctive to the silversmith that created them. By the middle of the 19th century paper labels had been created and were becoming common. Decanter labels continued to be made into the 20th century and can be found in art nouveau and art deco styles.
