Description
Carved horn peacock mounted on a wooden base. The Ancient Greeks worshipped the stunningly plumed bird because they believed that Zeus's wife Hera created the fowl's abstract plumage when her loyal watchmen Argus was killed by Hermes and she placed his eyes on the peacock's tail as an everlasting tribute to his loyalty.
